About Us

Thien Farm Management, Inc. was established by Gary Thien in 1994. After graduating from Iowa State University with a B.S. Degree in Agricultural Business Gary Thien started in the farm management business in 1974 with Council Bluffs Saving Bank as a farm manager. During his employment with Council Bluffs Savings Bank Gary managed agricultural property throughout Iowa. Gary received his Accredited Farm Manager designation in 1979 and his Accredited Rural Appraiser designation in 1980. Council Bluffs Savings Bank was sold to Firstar Bank in the early 1990’s and Gary was promoted to Department Head of Farm Management. In 1994 Gary had the opportunity to leave the corporate farm management business and start his own farm management business. Gary Thien served as the President of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA) from November 2003 through November 2004.

David Thien joined Thien Farm Management, Inc. in 1999. David graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. Degree in Agricultural Business with a Minor in Agronomy in May 1999. David received his Accredited Farm Manager designation in August 2004 and is currently working toward his Accredited Rural Appraiser designation.

Adam Thien joined Thien Farm Management in March 2005. Adam graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. Degree in Horticulture in May 2002. Adam is a member of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers and plans to seek his Accredited Farm Manager designation in the near future. 

Thien Farm Management, Inc. currently manages approximately 21,000 acres in Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, and South Dakota. Thien Farm Management, Inc. specializes in farm management, rural appraisal, agricultural consulting, agricultural property acquisition and sales, rural industrial property acquisition, recreational property leasing, wildlife habitat management and wetland mitigation banking.
